To feel good, both physically and mentally, we need to move and be outdoors. Half an hour of outdoor movement a day energizes us, helps us concentrate, improves sleep and digestion, strengthens the immune system, reduces depression and anxiety. We are made to be on the move. Conversations often flow better when we are moving at the same time, and conflicts are more easily resolved in motion.
During the pandemic, I started offering counseling in nature, and that led me to write the book “Ecopsychotherapy. Psychotherapy in and with nature for adults and children.” I was fascinated by how much better it made me feel to be outside for several hours every day, and I got the same reaction from the families I worked with: “What fun this was! How good I feel now!”
Think about how you can move more and get out more. Make the most of the little moments. They don’t have to be long or far away.
